A Comparison

Who is the best director of our generation?

OMG! OMG! OMG!

Only 19 Days away from Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 1!!!

I just re-read all the books to get prepared. Well I didn't read them I listened to them. Jim Dale is an amazing voice actor and audiobook reader. But seriously, I have grown up with Harry Potter and these movies look epic!

They're definitely more serious and not being in Hogwarts anymore really helps to add to that element. Oh and did I mention that Emma Watson looks stunning? Seriously, she does! Look --->

It is sad however, to see this franchise go. These characters that I have loved both in the books and on the screen won't have any new adventures. But if I ever feel down, I'll just revisit their old adventures. It really never gets old.

I really can't wait in the meantime, I just keep watching the trailers over and over, trying to catch something new. (I usually don't do this as I believe the movie will be spoiled for me, but seeing how I've read the books a few dozen times I don't think it will matter :-))

Here's the trailer so that you can be obsessed too!

Oscar Buzz

While the Academy Awards are still a few months away, buzz about Oscar nominations are spreading through the blogosphere. A few films have near unanimous agreement on Oscar nominations. One of them is the historical drama The King's Speech which stars Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter as King George VI and Queen Elizabeth respectively. Both Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter seem shoe ins for Oscar nominations. Interestingly, Firth was also nominated for Best Actor last year for his performance in Tom Ford's A Single Man and back to back astounding performances may give him an edge with the Academy voters.

With 10 nominations for best picture it gets slightly easier to choose which films will be nominated. And allows for big blockbusters to be nominated along with the drama filled, low-grossing movies the Academy usually picks for Best Picture. So I'll take a shot.

My Picks:

Best Picture:
  • The King's Speech
  • Inception
  • Toy Story 3
  • The Social Network
  • Hereafter
  • Biutiful
  • The Kids Are Alright
  • Black Swan
  • True Grit
  • 127 Hours
Best Director:
  • Christopher Nolan - Inception
  • Danny Boyle - 127 Hours
  • Darren Aronofsky - Black Swan
  • Joel & Ethan Coen - True Grit
  • David Fincher - The Social Network
Best Actor:
  • Matt Damon - Hereafter
  • Ryan Gosling - Blue Valentine
  • Javier Bardem - Biutiful
  • Colin Firth - The King's Speech
  • James Franco - 127 Hours
Best Actress:
  • Natalie Portman - Black Swan
  • Annette Bening - The Kids Are Alright
  • Michelle Williams - Blue Valentine
  • Helena Bonham Carter - The King's Speech
  • Nicole Kidman - Rabbit Hole
More Predictions to Come Later...

The Most Amazing Trailer I Have Seen...

in a while, that is.

But that doesn't detract from the awesomeness that is the combination of Danny Boyle and James Franco! Oh and the added fact that the movie is the gruesome yet heart-thrilling true story of Aron Ralston who gets trapped Between a Rock and a Hard Place (Yes, that is actually what his book is called) while traversing canyons.

I think what really sells the trailer is the sound editing. While it's no where near Clint Mansell's Lux Aeterna. It could compete well with Trent Reznor's score in the Social Network, or even Hans Zimmer's score in Inception. It just strikes the emotional strings of the heart.

Enjoy.
